Home Security Advice
As you think about home security, be sure to think about more than just burglar alarms. Keeping your home safe from break-ins is more than a one step process. You will want to look your house over and strengthen all of its weak points. So, as a word of home security advice, before you buy a burglar alarm, give your house a thorough walk-through.
Start with the windows. Are they properly installed? Do they have strong, modern glass? Do they lock securely? All of these qualities will make windows harder to break into. A window that is badly installed, made of inferior or old materials, or that does not lock properly (or is left unlocked) will be easy to break into. Free $850 ADT Home Security System
Do you lock each and every one of your windows every single time you go out? If you don’t, you should. It doesn’t matter if the window is high up, or in some other way hard to get to. Burglars have lots of practice at getting into windows. Don’t make their job easier by leaving your windows unlocked.
In addition to windows, be careful of weak doors. A strong, sturdy door is a good security device. It’s locks should be strong and difficult to force open. Another piece of good home security advice is that your spare key should not be hidden around your door. Also, be very careful not to lose your keys. This is especially true if you have any identifying information on your key ring – especially your home address.
Many people buy a home surveillance system to protect their homes. These are really good for monitoring your home. One excellent feature is the fact that they can record activity around your house on video that can be watched later. So this can be good home security advice if you are away quite a bit. Then a home surveillance system can be a good way to know what has happened while you were gone. Free $850 ADT Home Security System
You may want to have a guard dog. Your dog can deter burglars and thieves from entering your property. A guard dog is good to have because burglars are likely to be afraid to enter property that has a big, loud dog in residence. Loud barking is usually enough to warn would-be thieves away from your home. Of course, you will have to remember to take care of your dog, and it will need to be trained. So, having a guard dog is good home security advice for people who have the time, patience, and willingness to manage a dog properly.
And finally, burglar alarms come into play. They can be quite effective, but the main thing they do is scare thieves away. An alarm strategically placed where thieves can see it might be quite effective at keeping them out. But this alone will not keep your home completely safe. The best home security advice is to have a variety of methods in place to keep your home safe.

My husband and I just moved in to Chicago IL and and we have just acquired a house there. We are trying to find a dependable, trusted and 24/7 monitored burglar alarm system. We are considering of getting either ADT, Slomins, or GE. What can you recommend?
Alarm companies are all the same. The only difference is pricing, installation fee and contract.
Gene,
There is a major difference. Not all of them serve all the areas. So the one with the lowest price might not be available in you state/city.
In addition to having an alarm, I also have motion activated security camera. It would help to catch a criminal in case I do get burglarized.
I like the post good advice and good content.I tend to favor bright lights as a first step to convince burglars it would be easier to target someone else which can incorporate camera’s to record activity.
Yes, I’m with the motion activated security camera.
With kids and dogs (that are not guard dogs) coming and going, I’m not always vigilant on closing doors and windows. However, my neighbors home just got broken into so I will definitely keep more vigilant when I leave the home about securing it as a last measure.
